Most operators track their maintenance in a spreadsheet, or they pay for a desktop-first fleet tool that assumes you are sitting at a computer. The reality is a mechanic or an owner standing next to a vehicle with a phone, greasy hands, and sometimes no reception, trying to log an odometer reading or check what is due next on this car.
Fleet is the answer to that exact moment. It is a free, mobile-first app for NZ rental operators who want CoF, rego, RUC and service history in one place without another spreadsheet.
The design constraint drove everything: one-handed, thumb-reachable, glanceable. Rego is the hero field. Odometer is second, because that is the thing people log most. Recording a service starts with snapping the invoice or leaving a voice note, not filling in a form. Every tap target is sized for a phone. The NZ-specific compliance logic was the fiddly part. WOF and CoF behave differently, and RUC is balance-based rather than a date on a calendar, so each one is classified and surfaced on its own terms.
The clever bit is where it sits. Fleet is built as a module inside the Glovebox codebase, served from its own subdomain. It is free forever, no card, because its job is to be the front door. When an operator outgrows it and wants full bookings, bonds and payments, upgrading to Glovebox is a tier flip with zero data migration. Their vehicles, staff and maintenance history are already there. Fleet kills the spreadsheet today and quietly becomes the first step into the whole ecosystem tomorrow.
