Rental car software · NZ
Rental car software for NZ, from someone who runs a fleet.
I run Jimny Rentals and Dream Drives, and I build the software that runs them. Here is what actually matters when you pick a system, from someone who lives in one every day.
What a rental system has to get right here
Most rental software is built for somewhere else. Then it gets sold here with GST bolted on and a support team twelve hours behind you. The parts that bite are the local parts.
A system that fits a New Zealand operator handles a few things without you thinking about them. Online bookings that take a deposit and a bond. GST at 15 percent, done right on every invoice. CoF and WOF dates that warn you before they lapse, not after. RUC on the diesels. A bond hold you can actually charge against, with evidence, when a car comes back damaged. Xero that reconciles instead of a spreadsheet you square up by hand at month end.
The honest version
There are good platforms out there. VEVS and RCM both run real fleets and have for years. Where they tend to pinch NZ operators is the local detail and the feeling that you are renting a seat on someone else's roadmap, waiting on a feature that never quite lands.
Glovebox exists because I could not find booking software that felt built for how I actually work. So I built my own, and I keep adding to it because I need the features myself. It is not the biggest platform. It is the one I trust with my own bookings.
What switching looks like
You do not rip anything out on day one. I move your fleet, your rates and your history across, wire the booking widget into your site, and run both systems side by side until the new one has taken real bookings without drama. Then you turn the old one off. If a custom build makes more sense than off-the-shelf, I will tell you, and I will scope it before you commit a dollar.
If any of that sounds like your week, book a short call. It is me on the other end, not a sales team.
By what you hire out
Different fleets have different headaches. There is a page for each: campervan and motorhome hire, trailer hire, bike and e-bike hire, and 4WD and ute hire.

Questions
The things operators actually ask.
GST at 15 percent, CoF and WOF dates, RUC on diesels, and bond rules that Kiwi customers expect. A lot of overseas platforms bolt this on as an afterthought. Glovebox is built here, so the NZ parts are the default, not a workaround.
No. I keep your old system running while the new one is set up and proven with real bookings. You move when it is boring, not risky.
Yes. The booking widget drops into most sites, so you can keep the site you have and just wire the booking flow into it. If the site itself is the problem, I build operator sites too.
No. I run about ten cars myself. Glovebox has a free tier for small fleets, and custom work is there when off-the-shelf does not fit.
