Christchurch · Shopify Partner since 2017

When your Shopify store needs more than an app can fix.

Custom development, integrations, and fixes for existing Shopify stores. We're the people other agencies call when they're stuck. Christchurch-based. Shopify Partner since 2017.

You've already tried the obvious fixes.

You've installed apps. You've watched the YouTube tutorials. You've asked the Shopify forums. You've maybe even paid a developer who promised they could do it and then disappeared, or delivered something half-working.

The problem with most Shopify "developers" is that they're really designers who know enough Liquid to be dangerous. The work that requires actual engineering — custom checkout extensions, complex shipping logic, real app integrations, performance optimisation, theme code that won't break in six months — that's where most of them tap out.

We don't tap out. Custom Liquid, Shopify Functions, the Storefront and Admin APIs, Hydrogen, Shopify Apps with Laravel backends — we build the technical work that off-the-shelf apps can't.

What we work on.

Most of our custom work falls into these areas. If you don't see your problem listed, book a call — we've probably done it.

Who we work with on custom Shopify projects.

Existing store owners stuck on something specific

You have a Shopify store that's mostly working, but there's a thing — a checkout problem, a shipping rule, a custom feature your business needs — that no app handles and no developer has been able to deliver.

Stores that have outgrown apps

Your monthly app bill is creeping past $300 and you're realising it would be cheaper, faster, and cleaner to have a custom solution built once. We help you cut the bloat.

Other agencies and developers

We do white-label and overflow work for NZ agencies who don't have in-house Shopify Liquid or app development capacity. Discreet, fast, technically solid.

Why Christchurch businesses choose Dori Media.

We run e-commerce ourselves.

Dori Media operates Jimny Rentals NZ — including its Shopify store, shop.jimny.co.nz. We build stores knowing exactly what matters when revenue's on the line.

We solve the hard parts.

Custom shipping logic, complex inventory rules, multi-currency, app conflicts, broken redirects. The technical work most agencies subcontract or quietly avoid, we do in-house.

We're here, not in Auckland or Sydney.

Christchurch-based. Available for in-person meetings. Working in your timezone, understanding your market.

We stay on the hook.

As your Shopify Partner of record, we're invested in the lifetime of your store — not just until the invoice clears. Migration is the start of the relationship, not the end of it.

Editorial map showing custom Canterbury shipping zones built for Great Range Products — Greater Christchurch, North and Mid Canterbury, Banks Peninsula, South Canterbury, and inland Mackenzie

Great Range Products

Problem
A growing Shopify store needed shipping rates that reflected reality: Canterbury alone spans Christchurch metro to Twizel, Hanmer to Timaru — a single regional rate either overcharges city customers or underprices rural truck runs. With pool tables, BBQs, and other oversized items in the catalogue, this wasn't a small problem.
Solution
We built a custom Shopify carrier-calculated shipping integration that prices every order against the right Canterbury sub-zone — Greater Christchurch, North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, Banks Peninsula, and the inland Mackenzie. Oversized items pick up the truck-run logic automatically. Standard NZ-wide rates handle the rest.
Outcome
Accurate shipping at checkout for every order, every region. No more eating the cost of out-of-town deliveries, no more overcharging metro customers. Reduced support load from incorrect rates. Fewer abandoned carts at the shipping step.

Jimny Rentals NZ Shop (shop.jimny.co.nz)

Problem
An outdated Shopify store running off-brand visuals, with legacy "closing down" messaging still showing months later, and no clear path connecting the merch store back to the main rental brand.
Solution
Full visual rebuild aligned to Jimny Rentals' brand identity. Custom "How it Works" section. Removed legacy content. Integrated with the wider Jimny Rentals ecosystem so customers move smoothly between rental and merch.
Outcome
A store that finally looks and feels like part of the brand. Ready to sell merchandise to Jimny's existing customer base.

Adam — Dori Media

About Adam

Hi, I'm Adam.

I'm Adam — Christchurch born and raised, running Dori Media since 2010.

Over the past 16 years I've built websites and Shopify stores for everyone from Fonterra and other large NZ brands down to local Canterbury businesses just getting started. Same care either way.

I've built and sold Shopify stores over the years, and I run shop.jimny.co.nz for my own business Jimny Rentals NZ. So when I'm working on your store, I'm building it the way I'd build my own.

If you're a Christchurch business owner who wants to do Shopify properly — no agency fluff, no offshored dev work, no surprises — let's talk. Wherever you are in Canterbury, I'm happy to come and have a coffee.

Common questions about Shopify custom work.

Both, with a minimum. Most small fixes start at around $500 + GST, and we batch them into focused sessions. Bigger custom builds are quoted as fixed-scope projects. If your job is genuinely under an hour of work, we'll usually point you to a faster solution rather than take it on.

Yes — most of our custom work is on stores someone else originally built. We'll do a quick audit during the discovery call to flag anything we'll need to clean up before adding new work, and we'll be straight with you about the state of the existing code.

Yes. Checkout extensions, Shopify Functions, custom apps, B2B configuration, and the more advanced Plus features. If you're on Plus, we'll typically scope the project a bit differently to take advantage of what the platform allows.

Yes, and we do this regularly. Discreet, on your timeline, on your branding. We'll sign whatever NDA you need. Get in touch and we'll discuss how we work with other agencies.

Depends on the project size. Small fixes can usually start within a week. Larger custom builds are typically scheduled 2–4 weeks out. Urgent work (a broken checkout, a launch-day problem) we'll triage on the discovery call and tell you straight whether we can help right now.

Small fixes start at around $500 + GST. Most custom feature builds and integrations sit between $2,000 and $15,000 + GST depending on complexity. Ongoing retainers from $1,000/month. We give you a fixed quote after the discovery call — no hourly billing surprises.

Christchurch is our primary focus. For custom development work specifically, we take projects from anywhere in NZ — most of this work is remote anyway. The occasional Australian project too, when it's a strong fit.
